MTN, leader in Electronic Communications in Cameroon announces the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Secondary Education (MINESEC) for the use of its Mobile Money solution for the payment of school fees and related charges in Cameroonian secondary schools.

This Agreement was signed on 1 June 2018 in Yaounde by the Minister of Secondary Education, Madame Nalova LYONGA Pauline Egbe and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Saim YAKSAN on behalf of MTN, in presence of several government officials. During the same ceremony, the Minister equally signed similar MoUs with other Fintech operators, namely, Orange Cameroun, Express Union, and Campost.

The Partnership between Cameroon’s Ministry of Secondary Education and MTN is in line with the public-private partnership to build an inclusive Digital Economy in Cameroon. Henceforth, parents will no more have to move and spend hours in queues to be able to pay their children’s school fees. They will now be able to pay remotely through their mobile phones at any time and from any location.  This evolution will also enhance the transparency and traceability in the collection of school fees by secondary schools. This will enable the Ministry of Secondary Education to considerably improve the quality of its services provided to the Educative Community.

For Saim YAKSAN, CEO of MTN Cameroon, “This agreement participates in the reinforcement of the public-private partnership in the domain of inclusive digital economy in Cameroon, beginning with Education, a key sector that characterizes Government’s action.” He continues, noting that “At MTN, we are proud to count the Ministry of Secondary Education amongst the State organs that rely on solutions by MTN Mobile Money to improve their services”.
