Because the PUK code is a delicate piece of information, and before sending it to you, an agent should make sure that the requester is the owner of the phone number.

Computer users are increasingly numerous and these computers are usually connected to networks, particularly the Internet. If these users do not take minimum precautions, their computers can easily get attacked. As such, Ten Commandments are here to guide you. They are:

  1. Use quality passwords. The dictionary defines a password ‘as an agreed formula destined to be recognized as a friend to open a guarded passage”. A computer password provides access to the computer and the data it contains. It is therefore important to choose quality passwords that will be difficult to get access by using tools and very difficult to be guessed by a third party.

  2. Have an operating system and updated software: browser, antivirus, desktop, personal firewall, etc.
    Most attempted attacks arise as a result of faults inherent in a computer (operating system or software faults). Generally, attackers look for computers whose software has not been updated to use the fault to launch an attack. This explains why it is essential to update all the software so as to correct these faults.
  3. Do regular updates.
    One of the first principles of defense is to keep a copy of your data in order to respond to an attack or a malfunction. Backing up your data is a condition for the smooth running of your business.
  4. Deactivate ActiveX and JavaScript components
    ActiveX or JavaScript components permit the proper functioning of certain features but can also bring about security risks that can be perpetrated by an intruder to a vulnerable machine. Despite the inconvenience, this may cause, users should deactivate their information that was sent unconsciously and make sure it is activated only when you are sure you are using a trusted website.
  5. Don’t be in a haste to click on links.
    Attacks aim at deceiving Internet user to steal personal information arises as a result of clicking on the link that appears on the message. This link may be misleading and malicious. Rather than click on it, it is better to enter the website address in the browser address bar. These shall prevent so many problems.
  6. Never use an administrative account to navigate.
    A computer user has privileges or rights. These rights do permit and at the same time do not permit control of certain actions and access to some computer files. These rights are generally called Administrator rights and at times called simple user rights. In most cases, every user has the right to send enough messages and to surf the internet. By limiting the rights of a user, we also limit the risk of infection or compromise of the computer.
  7. Control the dissemination of personal information
    The internet is not a place where you can be so confident since the information you leave can escape instantly! In this context, avoid leaving personal data without closing them. Don’t forget to log out to your personal and sensitive information (such as bank details) that are found on the Internet. In case of doubt, better stay away from it.
  8. Never leave jokes.
    Never leave jokes as messages or some sort of string letters, instead lay emphasis on financial transactions, solidarity calls, virus alerts, etc. Whoever the sender may be, rebroadcasting these messages may bring about confusion and saturate the network.
  9. Be careful:
    The internet is a locality that is populated by strangers! We must remain vigilant! For instance, if a well-known correspondent and the person with whom we exchange regular emails in French sends a message with a title in English (or any other language, don’t open it. If you doubt this message, always try to confirm the message by calling. Generally, do not entirely trust the sender that appears in the message and never reply to messages from strange people.
  10. Be careful while opening attachments to an e-mail: they often have malicious codes
    One of the most effective methods to disseminate malicious codes is to use files attached to e-mails. To protect yourself, never open attachments with the extensions: .pif (for example an attachment called “photos.pif); .com, .bat, .exe; .vbs, .lnk. On the other hand, when you send files as attachments to e-mails, make it a habit to send attachments on an “inert” format, such as RTF or PDF, for example, this shall limit the risk of information leakages.

  1. IDENTITY THEFTIdentity theft on the Internet – through the so-called phishing technique – consists of taking control of a person’s virtual identity by extracting their password and username and posing as them to use their account for different, often fraudulent and unhealthy purposes.Tips: Caution
    • Use a complex password. Passwords that are too simple, such as’azerty’, ‘1234’ or your date of birth, expose you to identity theft.
    • When completing a form, be careful when checking the boxes that allow your personal data to be used. Be assured of the ethical use of your personal data.
    • Use a good anti-virus and anti-phishing filter.
    • Regularly delete cookies from your computer.
    • Your passwords and PIN code are confidential: NEVER disclose them.
  2. SEXUAL PREDATORS / PAEDOPHILES / CRIMINALSA pedophile on the Internet does not expose himself openly by saying who he is and what he is coming for. These predators hide under false identities and try to win your friendship to make you feel confident. They use fake profile photos, false names, surnames, ages, etc., to pretend to be people they are not. That’s what makes these crimes so common.Other crimes are committed using the same approaches. These crimes include social engineering.Tips: Care, Discretion, Awareness, Parental ControlAccording to the Law No. 2010/012 of 21 December 2010 Relating to Cybersecurity and Cyber criminality in Cameroon: Whoever uses electronic communication devices to make sexual proposal to a person of the same sex shall be punished with imprisonment for, from 01 (one) to 02 two years or a fine of from 500 000 (five hundred thousand) to 1 000 000 (one million) CFA francs or both of such fine and imprisonment.Penalties provided for above shall be doubled if sexual proposals are followed by sexual intercourse.
  3. CYBER HARASSMENTCyberbullying is a recent form of harassment that has developed at the same time as social networks. Harassment is no longer only in physical relationships (playgrounds or classrooms, offices, etc.). The Internet is now becoming a formidable weapon for harassment. More and more people are using this space to attack other people with messages containing threats, insults and degrading images.Tips: Care, Discretion, Awareness, Parental Control
  4. COMPUTER PIRACYA hacker, in computer science, is a person who penetrates a computer object without authorization, by computer means.There are many kinds of hackers on the Internet, good and bad. Each with a specific purpose and different ways of operating:
    • Hackers: IT security specialist, who likes to understand the internal operations of a system, especially computers and computer networks).
    • Script kiddies/Lamer: A pejorative expression of Anglo-Saxon origin referring to neophytes who, lacking the main skills in IT security management, spend most of their time trying to infiltrate systems).
    • Crackers: Pirate who aims to make money by hacking into documents, computer systems and destroys shareware (proprietary software that can be used free of charge for a period of time after which the user must pay the author to continue using this software).
    • Black Hat: Intentioned hacker.
    • Grey Hat: Competent hacker who sometimes acts in a good spirit, and sometimes not. This is a hybrid between a white-hat hacker and a black hat hacker).
    • White Hat: They oppose black hats, who are malicious hackers and are computer security experts.

Tips: To avoid such attacks as much as possible, you should use up-to-date antivirus software, scan your computer regularly, make regular updates (patches), use complex passwords, never share your password, know and avoid social engineering mechanisms.

What is the Youth Internship Program? 

Youth Internship program is an initiative launched which concerned students and young graduates who are called to apply for an internship or a professional experience depending on their status.

How can the youth apply?

They should load their applications on the platform https://careers.mtn.cm latest June 13th, 2019.

 

What happens after submitting my application?

Candidates whose profile matches requirements will be selected. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted by e-mail and will have 72h (3 business days) to confirm. Then they will be retained for the next step in the process: the selection interview.

An oral interview will be organized with each of the pre-selected candidates (Visio conference or Skype), in order to evaluate their oral expression, their professional qualities and their technical skills in relation to the internship.

Successful candidates will be personally contacted and the final list will be published on our web site.

 

How long will last the program?

The program is 3 months, from July 1st to September 30th, 2019 for the internship and 6 months from July 1st to December 31st, 2019 for the professional internship.

What is MTN CASH?

How did it work?

• Each day, the Participant receives a consumption objective via SMS.

Why should we register?

According to the regulations in force in Cameroon, more specifically Decree 2015/3759 setting the terms of identification of subscribers and terminal equipment of electronic communication networks, all mobile subscribers in the national territory must provide a valid ID benefit from the services of mobile operators. If my line is suspended, why am I suspended?

Your line may be suspended for one of the following reasons:

– Documents provided to MTN for your identification have expired.

– You have more than 3 numbers registered with the same identity card

– Your information has been incorrectly entered by the operator

How to get identified?

The operation is done FREE in an MTN point (agency, kiosk, shop partner) with one of these documents valid:

  • For Cameroonians:

– National Identity Card

– Valid receipt

  • For foreigners.

– Valid Passport

– Valid residence card

– Refugee card for refugees.

  • For Minors.

– Birth Certificate.

–  Valid National Identity Card or Receipt.

If I’m out of the indicated areas, can I subscribe to an MTN KATHIR bundle? 

No. When you are out of Mora, Mokolo, Maroua, Amchidé and of the departments of Mora, Logone, and Chari; you are no longer eligible for the MTN KATHiR packages.

Can I use the profits of MTN KATHIR out of the departments of Mora, Logone, and Chari once I have subscribed to a bundle?

What is the MTN Wanda referral campaign?

MTN Wanda Referral is a service that allows MTN Wanda subscribers to recommend MTN Wanda bundles to non-MTN Wanda subscribers in order to get some bonus for MTN calls once the non-subscribers purchase their first MTN Wanda bundle.

How does it work?

  • If you are already MTN Wanda subscribers dial the USSD code (*138#) in order to see the list of customers to who they can recommend the purchase of MTN Wanda bundles. The list of customers to who you can recommend MTN Wanda bundles will be selected among the customers with whom you use to interact via calls or SMS.
  • Once you select a number on the menu, you will get confirmation of the referral and the MSISDN selected in the menu will also receive an SMS on behalf of the referrer which will ask them to purchase an MTN Wanda bundle.

WHAT IS MTN SAVE MY CONTACTS?

MTN Save My Contacts allows MTN customers to save phonebook contacts in the cloud with an Android app (name and telephone number of the contact).

Contacts synchronized with the app can then be easily recovered or transferred in case of phone loss or phone change.

With MTN Save My Contacts, customers can also save their SIM contacts via their SIM menu.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

First of all, users will need:

  • A SIM card enabled for the service
  • To download the MTN Save my contacts Android app on the Play Store.
  • Mobile data or wi-fi enabled

How to subscribe?

To subscribe to MTN Save My Contacts service: users can register via SMS or via the SIM menu

  • Via SMS; customer sends OK to 8757 and confirms the subscription twice
  • Via SIM menu: customer follows these steps: Open Y’ELLO MTN -> Services Avancés -> MTN Save My Contacts -> Synchroniser and confirms the subscription twice

After subscription to the service, to save their contacts the customer has two options:

  • Via the app:  Customer launches the MTN Save my contacts mobile application and taps the BACKUP button to trigger the synchronization.
  • Via the SIM Menu: In cases where the subscriber has not downloaded the app, he/she can also save SIM contacts only via the SIM menu (Open Y’ELLO MTN -> Services Avancés -> MTN Save My Contacts -> Synchroniser)

However, in case a user has installed the Android application and mobile data enabled, all synchronizations launched from the SIM card will automatically trigger handset synchronizations and vice versa.

Users’ data will be synchronized on a monthly (every 30 days) basis starting from the day of the first synchronization.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The service costs 150 XAF/month with the first 30 days free. In case a customer does not have enough airtime at the renewal time, the service will retry renewing his subscription for 30 days while his subscription will be kept active. In this grace period, the customer will still have access to the service.
