C’est quoi l’eSIM ?

An “embedded SIM” or eSIM is a virtual SIM card embedded in a mobile device that connects a customer to an operator offering eSIM services. It works in the same way as a traditional SIM card, but you don’t need a physical SIM card to use it.

What are the benefits?

  • A quick, easy and entirely digital integration process;
  • The convenience of having several phone numbers: You can have more than one phone number on one device;

Eligibility

eSIM is available to all MTNC customers who own an eSIM compatible device.

How does eSIM work?

Before proceeding with the exchange/sale, the agent must ensure that the customer has an eSIM eligible device (press *#06# to verify) and have the number on the screen eSIM unique identification  (EID)  of the customer’s device.

08 possible scenarios have been identified and which you could encounter in the field (all customer journeys are:

  1. New connection (blank SIM ) => The customer comes to take a new eSIM connection.
  2. eSIM Upgrade  => Customer upgrades to eSIM from a physical SIM card.
  3. SIM Swap eSIM  => The customer has just switched from one eSIM device to another eSIM device.
  4. SIM Swap, Lost Device  => Customer’s lost/damaged device with physical SIM card and new device is supported by eSIM.
  5. SIM Swap, lost device  => Customer lost/damaged the eSIM device and wanted to download the eSIM into a new device.
  6. SIM Swap, downgrade  => The customer lost/damaged the eSIM and wanted to purchase a physical SIM card.
  7. SIM Swap, downgrade  => The customer wanted to switch from eSIM to a physical SIM card.
  8. Additional eSIM  => Customer had already populated their phone with eSIM profiles and wanted to add a new eSIM.

How to activate the eSIM number?

iPhone/iOS :

To download an eSIM to an iOS device, you need to follow these steps:

  • Go to the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Go to Mobile Data (or Cellular in some areas)
  • Select Add eSIM.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to scan the QR code provided by your carrier or enter the information manually.

Android :

To download an eSIM on an Android device, you need to follow these steps:

  • Go to the Settings app on your Android phone
  • Go to Network & Internet
  • Go to Mobile Network
  • Select Advanced
  • Select Carrier
  • Select Add operator
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to scan the QR code provided by your carrier or enter the information manually
