MTN Cameroon and Huawei Join Forces to Strengthen the Digital Capabilities of Women in the ICT Sector

Douala, 18 March 2024 –MTN Cameroon, leading electronic communications company in Cameroon and Huawei Technologies Ltd, signed a memorandum of understanding on 18 March 2024 at MTN Cameroon’s head office, aimed at sharpening women’s skills in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT) and other advanced technologies.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by the CEO of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng’ambi, and Vice-President of Huawei CEMAC, Weiwen (Henry) in the presence of the MTN Group Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, Nompilo Morafo.
Through this strategic partnership, Huawei is providing its state-of-the-art training centres and cutting-edge facilities, both locally and abroad, to women of the tech sector. Technical training and workshops will also be provided by experienced ICT industry leaders, offering support and personalised guidance to participants on cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and cybersecurity.
“We are delighted to partner with Huawei to launch this innovative training programme for women in technology. This partnership will equip women with the technical skills and experience they need to excel in this rapidly evolving field. We believe that inclusion and diversity are key to the success of the ICT sector, and we are committed to creating the right environment for these talented women to grow,” said Mitwa Ng’ambi, CEO of MTN Cameroon.
“It’s an honour for Huawei to sign this partnership with MTN in Cameroon, as we have done in other African countries, such as Uganda, and we are ready to apply our expertise in the field of ICTs as well as digitalization for the digital development of women in Cameroon,” said Weiwen (Henry), Vice-President of Huawei, CEMAC.
Since 2023, MTN Cameroon has been committed to equipping women with the skills they need to fully exploit their potential in the field of technology. Through its “Women In Tech” programme, the company aims at facilitating the acquisition of knowledge and skills by women of the ICT sector.
This collaboration between MTN Cameroon and Huawei characterizes an important step in bridging the gender digital divide in Cameroon. By providing women with access to quality training and cutting-edge technologies, the two companies are helping to build a more inclusive and diversified ICT sector, thereby fostering a more prosperous digital future for Cameroon.
