2024 – Empowering Young Minds: Achieving 1,000 certifications with MTN Skills Academy
27/12/25
February 2024; another location and another celebration. Johannesburg hosts the MTN Group’s annual excellence gala, where MTN Cameroon will shine brightly. Mitwa Ng’ambi, CEO of the Cameroonian subsidiary, will be crowned Chief Executive Officer of the year. MTN Cameroon will also win the first prize in the Customer Experience and Human Resources categories. Why settle for three trophies when you can win more? During the same evening, MTN will win four Y’ello Care Awards. And many others, including Human Resources General Manager of the Year, awarded to Evangeline Biboum.
Still in February 2024, MTN Cameroon will see a change in the chairmanship of the MTN Cameroon Board of Directors. Ebenezer Essoka replaces Colin E. Mukete, who had occupied the position since the company’s creation in February 2000. His leadership enabled the company to build a solid reputation based on trust, innovation and performance.
March 2024; back to Cameroon. Within a context where social challenges require collective responses for greater impact, MTN Cameroon engages other companies and together they launch the One Goal Alliance. Alongside other organizations such as Chanas Assurances, Dangote Cement, United Bank for Africa (UBA), IHS Towers, Huawei and MWDDB Cameroon, MTN becomes one of the founding members of this ambitious initiative with a clear objective: pool the strengths of the private sector to maximise social impact in areas crucial to Cameroon’s development.
MTN Cameroon’s social commitment continues in June 2024. More than 2,500 trees have been planted in five regions of the country, in partnership with the National Agency for Forestry Development Support (ANAFOR). A digital centre built from recycled materials, powered by solar energy, equipped with computers and connected to the internet, has been constructed at Government Primary School Bilonguè in Douala, in partnership with UNICEF.
Ebolowa will follow suit on 16 September 2024 in this path to digital inclusion. This will give MTN Foundation time to hand over a state-of-the-art multimedia centre to the Jean XXIII Seminary in the capital of the South region.
In same vein, young Cameroonians will take advantage of the opportunity to train online for free with MTN Skills Academy. The milestone of 1,000 certifications will be reached in November 2024.
Next stop: the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. In December 2024, the city of Limbe in the South-West region and its residents will be host to an MTN store. The first in this locality. Situated in the Befunde Building, this service centre helps to improve the digital experience and quality of service offered to customers.
