MTN Foundation, first corporate foundation in Cameroon, announces the inauguration on June 22, 2019 of the Multimedia Centre which it equipped and offered to Government High School Ekekom, Centre Region, as part of its “Digital Schools” programme. The ceremony was presided over by a representative of the Minister of Secondary Education, in the presence of the Senior Divisional Officer of Lekié division, Mayor of the Sa’a Municipality, Executive Secretary of the MTN Foundation and a host of administrative, traditional, military and religious authorities.
The new multimedia centre of Government High School Ekekom has twenty brand new computers equipped with the latest generation of processors and a high-speed Internet connection. This facility works with the Cyber Cloud solution, modern technological innovation that offers the possibility of providing remote assistance, always. In addition to computers, internet connection and furniture, MTN Foundation provided a video projector, printer and external hard drives to this multimedia centre.
Through this initiative, “MTN Foundation aims to create digital opportunities for Cameroonian high school students and thus improve the quality of their education. The Internet, through its rich educational content, is a tool for equal opportunities and the dissemination of knowledge. We are convinced that the students of Government Technical High School Ekekom will be able to significantly improve their results thanks to this jewel, and further increase the positive success rates recorded by this school for decades,” said Jean-Melvin Akam, Executive Secretary of the MTN Foundation, during his speech at the inauguration ceremony.
He took the opportunity to announce that the multimedia centre of Government High School Ekekom will not be the last as the Foundation plans to continue its “Digital Schools” programme, through which 65 such centres have already been constructed, equipped and offered to secondary schools in all ten regions of Cameroon. These 65 multimedia centres now provide more than 100,000 students and nearly 10,000 teachers with access to information and communication technologies using state-of-the-art equipment.
