1 - THE FIRST STEPS OF A START-UP

The first steps

MTN is incorporated in Cameroon on 15 February 2000 following the acquisition of State-owned company, Camtel Mobile. On 21 June 2000, a Boeing 747 chartered by the MTN Group landed at the Douala airport. The craft was carrying 70 tons of state-of-the-art equipment for MTN Cameroon’s technical installations. The message is clear: MTN is going to build heavily and robustly for the development of mobile telephony in Cameroon.
