The High Commission of South Africa and MTN Celebrate Nelson Mandela Day in Cameroon  

MTN Foundation, the very first corporate foundation in Cameroon is pleased to announce that it is joining the international community to celebrate the tenth edition of Mandela Day, this 18 July 2018. On this occasion, the personnel of the South Africa High Commission to Cameroon and Friends of the MTN Foundation visited the Fondation FACT at the Essos neighborhood in Yaounde.

The delegation was led by the South Africa High Commissioner to Cameroon, Her Excellency Kgomotso Magau Ruth. In view of contributing to improving the welfare of the over fifty inmates of this establishment, the visitors donated foodstuffs, medicines, beds, mattresses and other basic necessities to improve the living conditions of the orphans.

“Let me seize this opportunity to laud all those who, like you and your team courageously work daily and willingly devote their life to improve the living conditions of the underprivileged children,” declared Richard Ashu on behalf of Friends of the MTN Foundation while addressing officials of Fondation FACT.  “By doing so, you are the heroes inspired by the vision of Nelson Mandela on solidarity,” he added.

Mandela Day was instituted in 2009 by UNESCO to celebrate such values and encourage selflessness for the general interest as advocated by Nelson Mandela. This Day is commemorated on 18 July of each year, the birthday of Nelson Mandela, and which in 2018 coincides with the centenary of his birth.

Apart from the Club of Friends of the Foundation, MTN Cameroon employees were called upon to carry out a charitable action of their choice on Wednesday 18 July 2018, to celebrate Mandela, who teaches us that, “it is always time to do good”.
