Mobile Money Corporation announces the launch of the second edition of the MTN MoMo Hackathon in Cameroon.  The information was made public during a press conference held on August 4, 2022 in Douala.

The MTN MoMo Hackathon is a competition aimed at encouraging young developers, entrepreneurs and start-ups to create innovative financial transactional applications.  These innovations will enable them to offer an increasingly wide range of digital solutions for MTN customers, so that they can more easily manage their collection, disbursement, transfer or fundraising operations,” said Alain Nono, CEO of Mobile Money Corporation.

Developers interested in this challenge will need to meet certain requirements. For example, it is a mobile app that uses MTN MoMo’s application programming interfaces (API) and ensuring that the app targets consumers, merchants, or businesses. They will also need to ensure that the proposed solution is useful, usable and can cover use cases beyond payment.

At the Cameroon level, twelve candidates will be selected by MTN and their submissions will be reviewed by a Grand Jury to designate and reward the best 3 projects with a shared amount of USD 10,000

“This is an opportunity for our talents of the digital economy in Cameroon. They will demonstrate their know-how and will be mentored by industry experts. The competition will also allow us to grow the MTN MoMo ecosystem so that the solutions bring even more value to all its users, individuals, associations or companies”, added Alain Nono

Candidates whose ideas are selected will then have four weeks to  to develop their ideas with demos of their applications. These applications will each be the subject of a live demonstration in front of a jury.
